Ajay Dewal, age 12, is a Class VII student at Saloni International Academy, village Chak Charanwas, district Jaipur, Rajasthan. This is a rural, Hindi-medium school about 45 km from Jaipur city. Ajay comes from a poor family background but wants to succeed. This poem is about his teachers at the school.
टीचर होती एक परी
सिखाती हमको चीज़ नई ।
कभी सुनाती एक कविता
कभी सुनाती एक कहानी ।
करे कभी जो हम शैतानी
कान पकड़े , याद आय नानी ।
अच्छे काम पर मिले शाबासी
टीचर बनाती मुझे आत्मविश्वासी ।
टीचर होती एक परी
सिखाती हमको चीज़ नई ।
They guide us
They support us
They inspire us
They teach us
Today is the day to thank them and say ‘Happy Teachers' Day’.

करे कभी जो हम शैतानी

Not possible where I live now, though it was the norm when I was young.
