My Favourite Teacher

Gauri Mathur is a Class IX student at Maharaja Sawai Man Singh Vidyalaya, Jaipur. This is a bold contrarian thought by a 14 year old. We appreciate the independent edge.

“A good teacher is like a candle — it consumes itself to light the way for others.”

I was asked to prepare an appreciation card for my favourite teacher on Teachers’ Day 2015 by house captains in my school. The phrase “Favourite Teacher” got stuck in my mind. And I was confused.

“Who’s my favourite teacher?”

Many of them have inspired me, many have had believed me and others made me realize my true potential. It was indeed a difficult choice!

I asked my friends and they replied: “one who gives me good grades” or “probably the one who cracks silly jokes in class”.

These replies didn’t satisfy me. I wasn’t able to get the answer to my question. After a day of wondering and pondering, I realised that there is nothing like a favourite teacher.

I ended up making a big card for all the teachers who had taught me, or say, inspired me in the last one year. At the end, I would like to conclude by thanking each and every teacher who worked day and night for me by saying “You made a difference!”
