Poonam wants to be a teacher too!

Subhash Mathur

Subhash Mathur was born and brought up in small towns in Rajasthan. During his school and college education at Jaipur, he was keenly involved in sports, journalism and public speaking. His civil services career has given him a platform for spreading his ideas about modernising tax administration to benefit the common man. Post retirement he is devoting his energies, along with his wife Tilak, to public and humane causes.

Poonam comes from a rural background from the state of Rajasthan. She’s part of the World Vision Child Sponsorship programme that seeks to change the lives of needy children in India.

Our family is supporting a child’s education since 2008 under this programme. The first child supported by the family was Vinod from 2008 to 2012 before his family moved out of this World Vision programme.

From 2012 our family is sponsoring Poonam’s education. Poonam will be eight years old in October this year. It’s a pleasant coincidence that her desire to become a teacher as a grownup becomes known to us when we are celebrating Teachers Day 2016. This is her story in her own words and pictures.

Best of luck Poonam

Sir, this wonderful attempt of your family is bound to succeed. May Poonam succeed in realizing her dreams. Dedicated teachers are a fast dissappearing tribe and the Nation really need many like her. Our very best wishes for Poonam and similar placed children and for the success of this noble initiative.
